In Memory of Lisa

My friend, Lisa from work passed away two months ago. I just found out this morning. She was my work friend at the nostalgic hotel that carries a Cuban ambience. Every now and then, one could catch the essence of the mafia overseeing the gaming, in this 1957 establishment.

Lisa was a petite Italian woman in her 60s but looked 40. She was Housekeeping and came to work looking like a glamorous model. She had shoulder length auburn hair and styled it in a flip. We would talk every time, we saw each other. She took pride in her job— not only with her outward appearance but her hard work and dedication. Her ethics were on an all-time high and yet, management made her feel unappreciated. She was stressed because they were understaffed and loaded her with work for three people. She continuously cleaned the bathrooms, only to find it filthy in a matter of seconds. Guests had no regard of whom would pickup after them. I remember hugging her and told her how much I appreciated her. Besides, what I say matters more than management!  She laughed!

Her smile was beautiful, inviting and always lifted my spirits. It helped me to continue being positive with guests and accommodating them with massage services.

In the powder room, we talked about her first love after she heard about my book, Pieces of Victory. I told her that she will be captivated by the love story part of my book! She immediate reminisced of her soulmate in Italy. He attempted to travel to her after reconnecting but it was too late... he passed away.

She seemed so sad and stressed the last six months at the Cuban themed hotel as if she were just doing time so to speak.

Today, I found out from another Housekeeper that she is no longer with us at least, in the physical form. I was so sad but thought about the turmoil she was in... here in this realm. Now, her metaphoric chains have broke and is free to be with her one-true-love.

I promised her a massage last Christmas. She never took me up on that offer. Perhaps tonight, I will give Lisa one when... I visit her in my dreams.

Jennifer Halter - New Bethany

What would you do about a little girl who was abused in her home? As a punishment, she was sent away to a horrifying torture camp that one would think was located in the fiery pits of hell but instead... existed in this realm. Her mother drove her inside a compound that was surrounded by a chain linked fence with barbed wire on top. Inside the office, Jennifer’s mom signed over her parental rights to the monsters from the darker side. She drove off while, Jennifer ran to catch up with her but could not. Everything was in slow motion and all of her efforts could not break her free from the affliction, she was about to endure. The tears blinded her vision of a woman that was suppose to be nurturing but instead... carried a heart of stone. Abandonment hit her like a ton of bricks. Jennifer carried the heavy weight of sadness causing gravity to pull her tiresome body to the ground. Pity, the only thing she felt were the hot coals beneath her and little did she know, it would only get worse. Jennifer knew beyond the shadow of a doubt, she was in the underworld. The gates closed and she was taken inside the home of torment. If any of the children tried to escape, they would be tackled, beat and thrown into isolation. When I say beat, I mean 80 plus licks with a wooden paddle and an angry force behind it. Jennifer received a beating when she first entered into this nightmare mistaken for a home of grace. Staff told her, “If you don’t stop crying, we will give you something to cry about!” They beat her. If she cried or screamed, they would start counting all over again.

Jennifer was suffering anxiety after dealing with the abuse she had to endure and her stomach was on the fritz for the obvious reasons. She couldn’t eat her food and staff force-fed her spaghetti. She kept spitting it out and they kept shoving it back in. They forced fed her until she vomited and then made her eat that as well. As a punishment for that, Staff and another student scrubbed her hands raw with a Brillo pad and then dipped her hands in a mop bucket filled with Pine-Sol and bleach. After taking it out of the bucket, they poured Comet Cleaner over her bloody hands and then bandaged them up. Staff and students told her, “Now, you are ready to scrub the floors with your bare hands!”

Through the corridors, you could hear the sound of the piano playing hymnals like a grenade going off in the middle of a war.

Medical staff were far from present inside this torture chamber. However, in this topsy-turvy world, a preacher stood by a pulpit preaching the word of God. The psychopath, that everyone respected because they labeled him a man of God, truly believed he was saving troubled girls from damnation. Meanwhile, he was sex trafficking, beating, locking girls in a closet of isolation for days-weeks-months at a time, forcing them to eat their own vomit, sodomized them and then if they bled during the violent attack, they were forced to “clean up their mess”. “Look at what you made me do!” rings in Jennifer Halter’s ears and horrifyingly haunts her to this day. Like a scratch on a broken record in her head, religious songs that were sung throughout the home are triggers to her PTSD. Slam goes the Bible on the pulpit, a preacher screaming fire and brimstone, “Praise God!”, will only be the ammunition to set anyone off the deep end after going through this traumatic experience.

By this time, Jennifer tried to kill herself and slit her wrists. Instead of taking her to receive medical attention, staff merely wrapped up her wrists so tight, it stuck to her wounds. Every night when she unraveled it, it would reopen causing more bleeding. One girl, Silvia found her trying to kill herself and saved her life. Unfortunately, she paid a hefty price of a beating in the back of the head with a Bible and countless licks.

It wasn’t solely this monster but staff and other preachers were encouraged to have their way with the so called wayward girls. After being raped countless times, they were fed psychological damaging spiritual food in church that women/girls were to blame when a man had sexual desire for them. It was the way women/girls smelled, dressed, looked, body language or demeanor that biblically labeled them as the temptress. The Bible was wide open as this serial rapist began his sermons... This list of blaming is everything that a rape counselor would never tell a victim. Instead, the complete opposite—“It wasn’t your fault!” To make matters worse, the wives of the preachers who raped the girls, beat them taking their aggression out on them. This was the beginning of the grueling testimony of the three hour statement followed with a one hour of what seemed like a prosecuting interview of questions given in Arcadia at the Bienville Parish Court House. I stood by Jennifer Halter as she bravely put herself back in time. She closed her eyes and I literally held her hand so she wouldn’t be alone. She talked about being on her knees doing hard labor in a skirt and suffered many bug bites and scrapes, the lack of eduction received and yes, she was forced to eat her own vomit. She combed over Social Services coming to New Bethany while, she was locked up in this compound. Social Services put her in a separate room. She told them about her open wound from staff torturing her with a Brillo pad and harmful chemicals. She told her story as a 14-year old girl and was promised that they would come back to rescue her... but never lived up to their word. She lost faith in the system. She told the authorities that she was sodomized and they did nothing. She risked everything by courageously telling the truth. If staff from New Bethany found out what Jennifer told Social Services, they would have made her life more of a living hell, if it wasn’t that already.

During the statement, the Sheriff asked Jennifer, “What were you wearing during the attacks?” I nearly came unglued. I stopped the interview and asked, “How is that relevant?” Does it really matter how she dressed? What difference does it make?” He merely stated it was protocol. Just for the record, she was wearing the uniform that staff made them wear—not that it matters. He also mentioned that Jennifer was the first one to make a statement. I almost lost my composure one more time because I knew the truth of the countless criminal reports from talking to survivors the night before. There are numerous statements from children over a span of four decades. So how did everything magically disappear into thin air?

Many survivors unfortunately, have stories similar to Jennifer Halters. Some ran away and reported to authorities the heinous crimes committed in this compound. The authorities merely sent them home and parents placed them right back into this bottomless pit. Anyone awarded to the state was directly sent back to this hell in spite of the reports. Impressionable children were just sent straight back to New Bethany after reporting RAPE, beatings and torture. It was as if the authorities were working for the preacher from a darker dimension–hades.

I was Jennifer Halter’s Rape Advocate. I accompanied Jennifer on the trip to emotionally support her while, we traveled on a plane to Houston. Jennifer was terrified to fly and I was there to comfort her on her brave journey of speaking the truth and reporting criminal acts. I was not initially there to be her Rape Advocate but it just fell into place and I was truly honored. In Houston, we met Joanna Wright (survivor of rape, mental and spiritual torture at New Bethany) and the three of us traveled by car to Louisiana. Thank you New Bethany girls for supporting Jennifer during this time and making me feel like a part of the change. Although, this serial rapist escaped the most heinous crimes in a span of four decades (he was not even indicted by the jury), he will not escape these stories spreading awareness like the fire he created in hades–New Bethany.

How can a serial rapist escape
prosecution of heinous crimes?

Please be aware of the serial rapist that was encouraging other pastors and staff of the congregation to brutally rape the girls. He also sodomized the boys in the conversion therapy program. I am honored to have been Jennifer Halter’s Rape Advocate, when she reported horrific criminal acts in Arcadia at the Bienville Parish Court House. The so called pastor (now diseased), escaped heinous crimes without prosecution for decades. How is it possible that America allowed this to slip through the legal system?

Special thanks to Dale Davidson, Keen TV for making a generous donation in order for Jennifer and I to travel to Louisiana. Jennifer was able to bravely report a crime but also to share her story publicly with NOLA.  New Bethany Article

James Swift
There was also a boy’s home at New Bethany. James Swift is a survivor of the most torturous conversion therapy. They kidnapped him by putting a hoody over his head so he couldn’t see where they were taking him. They threw him in a cage and fed him dog food as a privilege. This is just the beginning of something so demonic.

James Swift’s Story: Pastors and staff tortured him at the New Bethany home for boys. It is one of many horrific conversion therapy testimonies. Do not send your child to a conversion therapy. Click to hear his story on the radio.

There is a sister program, Hephzibah House open today and this is similar to the preaching that went on at New Bethany. This does not justify the way men treat women. People are responsible for their criminal acts. If you are bothered by the sermon alone, you should be upset how the Hephzibah House is abusing little girls today. Shut down the Hephzibah House!

This sermon is straight from the Hephzibah House:

This is How I Define a 'Mensch'!

Mark Levine

This Virginia State Delegate is more than a political figure making a difference. He is a Talk Show Radio Host for Mark Levine Talk, a Journalist, Constitutional Attorney, TV Personality and my friend. There is no doubt in my mind that he over exceeds this list and I believe, I am only scratching the surface. I first met Mark at a convention in Long Beach, CA for Survivors of Institutional Abuse. He continuously volunteers his time for survivors. He is humble, down-to-earth and will stand up for human rights without giving it a second thought. When we had a convention in DC, Mark helped with Survivors of Institutional Abuse. Jodi Hobbs is a survivor of Victory Christian Academy and the founder of Survivors of Institutional Abuse (SIA-now.org). She started this non-profit organization as a means for other survivors to have a support system, become empowered and take action against child abuse in teen programs. The troubled teen industry is a billion dollar industry and many of these programs horrifyingly, operate TODAY.

When SIA had the convention in DC, Mark Levine helped setup the protesting, became the vehicle to help survivors feel empowered (especially, during speeches in front of Capital Hill), and served as the Master of Ceremonies to these events. He also invited survivors to his show, Mark Levine Talk to give their testimonies. This was my first interview on the radio and I was a bit nervous but I was honored to share my story with Mark and DC. He is the key  reason why I feel confident today to tell my story.

Several weeks ago at the last minute, I wanted Mark on my TV interview to give his legal standpoint regarding the "troubled teen industry" and the Federal Bill that was reintroduced by Adam Schiff. He was willing to offer his time without much notice. I knew that this Constitutional Attorney would have more clout in making my TV interview most powerful. However, it is astounding that this Washington Pundit would speak on survivor's behalf at the drop of a hat. Unfortunately, I was unable to include him at the end of the TV interview due to final edits. I feel that Mark would make time to help survivors out in anyway he can. It is unbelievable that a man who has a full plate filled with politics, volunteer work, radio interviews, TV shows would have a slot to juggle my request into his itinerary.

I am so grateful to have Mark Levine as part of the survivor community family. He uses his knowledge and political influences for the greater good. It's refreshing to hear that someone like this is continuously making a difference in DC. He is all heart and that is... powerful for changes.

Mark Levine Interviews Survivors!

Mark Levine interviewed many survivors of bootcamps for kids, reform schools, boarding schools, straight programs, wilderness programs etc. This interview took place in DC.

I was nervous; this was my first interview. I must have said "basically" 100 times —Basically!

Note: My parents took me out of Victory Christian Academy due to other survivors telling their stories to faculty and staff at Cornerstone Christian School (the school I excelled in and was respected by instructors prior to being forced to a reform school). Many girls from Victory Christian Academy were sent to my former private school, Cornerstone Christian School. Word got out of the torture we endured and my parents were pressured by faculty and staff to take me out. I was locked in a hellhole and held captive for 8 months.

Rescue Girls Held Captive Inside the Hephzibah House!

Last night on Christmas, captive girls in a locked down boarding school spent the night in fear and anxiety. They tossed and turned while holding in their urine and bowel movements. If they ask permission to use the facilities, girls will get punished. They are forced to wear diapers if an accident happens, berated, malnourished, forced child labor without pay (slavery), spiritual damage and yet, it continues to operate today? If one “gets wind” of a parent doing this to their child, one could call social services and most likely remove the child from the home. However, parents can hire a program such as this one, and it remains open without a repercussion? The Hephzibah House story also made CNN news! So why didn’t it shut down after the media exposure, countless police reports of child abuse, numerous YouTube video testimonies... So money dictates this country? Prove me wrong.
Share this, if you have a problem with the Hephzibah House being open for business! These owners do not deserve to make one more penny!

"Girl Erased"

Girl Erased

Last night I saw the movie, Boy Erased for many reasons. First of all, I wanted to support the LGBTQ community by spreading awareness and informing the public that conversion therapies are psychologically, physically and spiritually damaging.

Second, I wanted to embrace solitude while, I watched this movie. Intuitively, I knew in my heart that something would trigger PTSD and... it did. I started hyperventilating in the theater when the preacher running this program, in order to convert gay young men to becoming straight, was yelling with a Bible in his hands. He told one young boy during a sermon that God could not love him or accept him into His Kingdom. Once again the past rang in my ears, "God could not love me. God could not love me. God could not love me." The familiar intense sound pierced my hearing like a siren from a darker dimension. It was in that very moment of hatred, portrayed on screen, when I absolutely lost it. Staff and students also beat this boy with a Bible and encouraged other children in the congregation to do the same.

Although Victory Christian Academy (the reform school I was locked up into) wasn't a conversion therapy, they treated us as if we were untouchables to God. In this American hellhole for adolescent girls, shame was born so to speak and hid under the flag of religion.

To shun your child for being honest about who they are and then not accepting them into your so called kingdom (your home) is the cruelest possible sin that exists on this planet. To have a congregation make a child feel unwelcome in His Kingdom is speaking for a demonic god. The High Power of Love does not hate, separate or abandon. This doesn’t make any sense and does not sit right with my heart.

I am not that girl that has been erased. Nor will I rest until, we as a nation go down the right path and close down these torture camps ending further spiritual damage.

Spiritual Damage - Hephzibah House

Mary Kumar
My friend, Mary Kumar shares her personal story and I know from my similar experience that she is telling the TRUTH. Whomever denies her truth is brainwashed (see Brainwashing) from that cult and really believes that God is working with the Hephzibah House's ministry. This YouTube video (below) hit home because she touched based on spiritual damage that happens in reform schools, wilderness programs, teen boot camps, conversion therapies etc. This is a different video she made regarding the Hephzibah House. Again, this boarding school for the wayward, is a sister program to Victory Christian Academy (where I was locked up into). These teachings of Christ are similar and ran by the same cult.

These cults are steering young children away from God and the church. It is definitely the wrong approach and Mary and myself are examples of the end result. I encourage other survivors to comment on how your program damaged you on a spiritual level.

The pastor running the program Victory Christian Academy, treated us the same and we were continuously alienated making us feel that we were "untouchables" not only to society but to God. We were conditioned everyday until, we believed it...

Personally, this so called man of God made me feel like an estranged woman and then I became one. I sought affection from relationships to fill that void because I felt so unloved. This remains a constant battle for me.

I can no longer enter into a church without experiencing PTSD. I want to be in the back. The associations with religious songs, a preacher yelling or any kind of praise to God is tantamount to an automatic machine gun going off in my mind.

Do you want this for your daughter or the helpless girls currently locked up in the Hephzibah House now? Yes, it's still open and a demonic sermon of something from a darker side is being preached from the pulpit. This doesn't include any of the physical abuse that goes on inside.

Jodi Hobbs’ Story

Jodi Hobbs is a survivor of Victory Christian Academy and the founder of Survivors of Institutional Abuse (SIA-now.org). She started this non-profit organization as a means for other survivors to have a support system, become empowered and take action against child abuse in teen programs. The troubled teen industry is a billion dollar industry and many of these programs horrifyingly, operate TODAY.

At the age of seventeen-years old, Jodi was tricked into going to a locked down reform school. Staying out late and partying, her parents felt she was going down a wrong path. This Christian reform school was a recommended option from other parents who had their child in this tough love program. Located in Ramona, California, the 12-foot fence with barbed wire on top, enclosed Victory Christian Academy. Once the gate closed, girls were trapped in with no way out with hardly any windows. Surveillance cameras surrounded the premises making it difficult to runaway and staff would only tackle a girl for trying to escape. All forms of communication were cutoff including phones. Visitors were not allowed for the first three months. After that, it was once a month and solely parents/legal guardians. These visitations were regulated, of course. Incoming and outgoing mail were monitored and if you tried to explain what was going on behind closed doors, it was read in chapel and severe punishments followed.

Chapel... This demonic preacher from another world fed these children negative reinforcements twice a day for an hour or more. His name calling included: manipulators, liars, thieves, alcoholics, druggies, degenerates, sluts (using Biblical names such as Jezebel and Bathsheba, does not soften the blow), losers, bad decision makers, home wreckers, and the list was increasingly magnified hourly until... Jodi believed it.

This lunatic pastor made individual students stand up during church time while, he determined their spiritual faith. A prime example was the division of sheeps (followers of Christ) from the goats (Non-followers of Christ). He would appoint all the sheeps (girls) in one pile and then humiliated the other girls into the goat pile. He made them physically walk into their designated group for the visual.

These cult like sermons were nothing that she witnessed from her hometown congregation. This fire and brimstone method threw out any positive light of God and replaced it with something else... Chapel suddenly became a browbeating session for the girls of the program and this preacher from a darker side of another dimension, sadistically backed it up with scripture.

In this lockdown bootcamp, girls were punished frequently for the slightest mistake. These so called mistakes consisted of forgetting a pencil for school, misquoting Biblical scripture, singing a song on the radio, voicing an artist’s name, naming or talking about a TV show, discussing a friend from the outside world, going to the bathroom when it was unregulated or discussing any of the abuse going on. This ludicrous list of rules could go on without a manual for proper guidance. I regret to say, Jodi was locked into the room of isolation called, the Get Right Room for merely forgetting her pencil for school. This was a tiny closet that girls would be locked into while, sitting on the floor listening to preaching tapes for hours, days-weeks and months at a time. By now, you know what kind of feel good affirmations, this demonic preacher was feeding the wayward girls under his care. Jodi was locked into this isolation hole for weeks at a time. Another student would monitor her for days and eventually... weeks. While in this miniature room of torment, she tried to take her own life justifying it would only be a better solution. She found a paperclip and stuck it into her lower abdominal region hoping to hit an internal organ in order to escape this demented place of torture.

When a student first arrived at the program, they had to follow another student 3 feet behind them. It was called, the buddy system. If they broke this rule, they would be punished with demerits, isolation or standing in front of a pole for hours at a time. The buddy system was the biggest form of degradation especially, when one could have a 12-year old girl leading. The buddy system lasted one full month but if a student was disobedient, it could be for their entire stay (normally one year).

Demerits were another form of punishment. They were in essence a psychologically damaging tool to reinforce negative self worth. Here is an example: Let’s say a girl was not within a certain amount of feet away from another student they were on separation with. Separation is when students or staff feel that girls should be separated because a. they knew each other from the outside world or b. they were becoming close friends. For instance, breaking the rule meant they were accidentally too close in proximity. The demerit could consist of: “I will not be a game player and keep away from a student I am on separation with!” “I am a heathen!”, “I am a liar!”, “I am a backslider!”, “I have the devil inside of me and I continue to have a bad attitude!”, “I will not have a bad attitude!”, “I will not sing a secular song!”, “I will not wake up a helper to use the rest room in the middle of the night!” These could be 100X 500X 1,000X and they could double and triple while trying to do everything else in this program.

Students were timed when they ate and had to eat everything on their plate. Some were force fed if they did not eat the entirety. If they were fortunate enough to bypass a blended version of dinner fed through a funnel down their throat, their meal would sit there for days at a time until, there was an empty dish. If children were to vomit, the staff would make them eat it.

Hard labor was delegated without pay. This consisted of scrubbing the bathrooms, cooking, washing walls, digging ditches and helping build a church without a hard hat. Carey Dunn, another student was killed while doing forced labor. Carey Dunn

In this place of redemption, other students were encouraged by staff to emotionally, spiritually and physically abuse a student whom they deemed rebellious and incompliant. One example was orchestrated by staff. A redheaded 14-year old girl was handcuffed binding her to a chair with duck tape over her mouth. Other students were encouraged to robotically feed her negative slams: “You are a disgrace to God!”, “You are a puke!”, “God is puking down on you!”, “You bring shame to your family!” All of these taunts carried on for hours while, students had their Bibles opened. This helpless student could have suffocated because she was crying while duck tape was covering her mouth.

Students who participated in these acts of violence and emotional damaging other girls... were climbing up in ranks at this program. They were given privileges that other students did not have. This included trips outside the gate to get tacos and other “at-a-girl” pats on the back. At this point, the emotional beaten down wayward, were starving for any kind of positive reinforcements– even if it were dysfunctional. These so called inmates that followed the beat of this program’s twisted drum were respected by staff and usually, on their way to leaving. While locked up, it was easier to survive. Children were in survivor mode.

Students that participated in abusing other students are victims of abuse. A parent or legal guardian should encourage a safe environment. To orchestrate minors to inflict pain onto another child is child abuse. End of story.

Jodi Hobbs has turned her personal experience into a safe haven for survivors. She educates the public that the following programs: teen bootcamps, wilderness programs, reform schools, boarding schools for the wayward, conversion therapies, rehabilitation programs, and straight programs continue to be a billion dollar industry abusing our children.

By sharing this blog, you are taking the first step to spread the awareness. This could also save a child’s life by informing a parent contemplating sending their child to a program. What really goes on behind closed doors... is entirely different than a brochure or website.

Victory Christian Academy received a slap on the wrist due to not meeting up to fire-code standards and not having a license. Numerous survivors reported child abuse to Social Services and yet, there were no legal repercussions. This unorthodox pastor closed the school in Ramona and opened up another in Florida where he abused other girls for over two decades. Jodi, SIA-Now.org also participated in getting Lighthouse closed down along with Reporter, Alexandra Zayas from the Tampa Bay Times. This thorough investigation in the state of Florida managed to reach parents that had their child at this location. They pulled their teen out of the program and money could no longer feed this hellish tough love lockdown. Lighthouse finally closed it’s doors due to media exposure in 2013.

Hephzibah House-Being Forced to Wear Diapers

Mary Kumar's Story...

Mary Kumar is a survivor of a lockdown reform school for the wayward. This boarding school for girls is located in Winona Lake, Indiana called, Hephzibah House. It was founded in 1971. Anderson Cooper covered a thorough investigation of the boarding school for girls and no one has made any efforts to close down this program of torment. Is child abuse illegal? Yes. If we allow this home for girls to stay open for business then we are condoning it. Parents are feeding these programs by a. sending their child to these institutions. b. money.

Parents
Parents are usually brainwashed by their church or other organizations. They are consistently fed this spiel: "If you do not enroll your child in this program, they will end up dead!" Parents usually cannot see their child for months at a time. I'm a survivor of a sister program, Victory Christian Academy and I could not speak or see my parents for three months. By that time, the child is already brainwashed. At this point they are convinced that if they say anything about what is going on behind closed doors... they will be tortured further for exposing the horrific tactics used to discipline these children.

Three years ago, I blogged Mary's story on my website along with this compelling YouTube video. Her brave testimony touched my heart. Her mission is to finally save the other children locked in there TODAY who endure this type of abuse. Do not turn a blind eye to this subject and help these children. We can start by sharing this blog to spread the awareness.
